Evidence from an individual

Do you work in the community? The National Assembly of Wales is currently holding an Inquiry into Community Nursing and wants to hear from frontline nurses and health care support workers.

•           Do you feel there are enough senior nurses, nurses and HCSWs in your team to care for patients effectively?

•           Do you have enough time to care for patients effectively?

•           Does your team have enough administrative support?

•           Do you have the right technology such as a handheld device to support your work?

•           What would help you do your job?

I am a District Nurse Team leading working in the community for the last twenty years. I have seen many changes over the years and these changes have not being ggod for those working in the community.

Moral is very low due to high volume of visits staff has per day, shortness of staff, patient high expections and failure to support staff from senior nurses.

We are just visiting patients doing the task and leaving we have no time to person centred care asking patients what matters to them and making sure every contact counts we have become a very reactive services no proaction.

We have no technology to support us in our work documentation is poor and considering how advance technology why are we need doing paper documentation where is the clinical governance.

Certainly more staff better techology and support from senoir managers would help community nurses do their job.
